CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Intermediate Pilates Mat Class
Instructor:
Julia Miller

Beneficial for both dancers and non-dancers, Pilates classes are based on concepts and exercises of the methodology of Joseph Pilates that focus on improving flexibility, strength and coordination. It involves muscular toning exercises with deep stretches to create long, lean, beautiful muscles. The exercises help facilitate correct spinal alignment and are ideal for dancers (or anyone) as they strengthen without bulking muscles, thus enabling greater ease of movement. This work also energizes the body so it is beneficial before class or performance.

Hip Hop

Anton Smith
With the integration of R&B, street jazz and different styles of hip hop, this class is a fun, positive and energetic experience that is geared towards the experienced mover/dancer, hip hop novice, or anyone who just wants to move!  Wear clothes you can move in and sneakers.  You can see a sample of class by clicking here.

Modern Technique - (Beg/Int)
Instructor: Tammy Rosen
This modern class emphasizes the use of floor for centering and grounding oneself in movement, and like other dance forms brings its own focus on the use of breath (inhale/exhale) to bring quality to movement. Concepts of overcurve/undercurve, contraction/release, musicality and rhythm are explored. The class incorporates an eclectic blend of contemporary and post modern movement for a style that is both quirky and organic.  Students can expect a deep, fluid warm-up with an emphasis on correct alignment.  Phrase material includes floor work and gives dancers the opportunity to explore their own expression and style while challenging their technique and performance abilities.  Class motto:  "Dance is fun!"

Modern Technique - Int/Adv.
Instructor:  Carolyn Minor
Carolyn’s dance class is based on the Limon technique she learned from Jennifer Muller. The class begins with a short Yoga based warm-up. Following that is a traditional barre that utilizes classical ballet leg work in conjunction with a full range of upper body movement. The time spent in the center of the room, following the barre, is used to strengthen the balance, loft in jumping and adagio movement. The final moments of class are all out across the floor ecstatic fun! Come join us!
